SYSTEM INTEGRATION01 / THE LIGHTBOT ADVANTAGE
Built around the way you weld.LightBOT brings FANUC motion control and IPG laser welding together. Teach the path, control your weld settings, and bring automation to the work you know best.
Guide the arm into position and build your weld sequence with FANUC’s visual timeline and LightBOT commands.
Access LightWELD presets, power, frequency, wobble width, and adaptive wire feed from the FANUC controller.
Automate with the cobot, then switch LightWELD back to handheld use in under five minutes.
HUMAN KNOW-HOW. ROBOTIC CONTROL.02 / FROM PATH TO PRODUCTION
A hands-on workflow brings your welding experience into a repeatable robot program.
Move the cobot by hand or pendant to define your positions.
Add positions and LightBOT commands to the FANUC timeline.
Set LightWELD parameters, validate your program, and run your part.
LIGHTBOT / PENDANT CONTROL
Your weld settings, right on the timeline. The LightBOT app puts LightWELD commands alongside FANUC’s motion icons. Select presets, adjust the process along a weld, and manage wire feed from the robot pendant.

Choose an IPG factory preset or a user preset. Save multiple weld programs for parts that need different conditions.
Change laser power, wobble width, and wobble frequency at programmed points. Adjust the process for corners, transitions, and the end of a weld.
Link wire speed to the robot’s tool speed and adjust the ratio for the weld. LightBOT includes calibration and named configurations for up to five wire feeders, including double-wire setups.
Sequence laser and wire feed independently. Control gas timing and crater fill, and switch compatible auxiliary equipment such as a rotary or fume collector.
For LightWELD models with cleaning capability, select the metal, intensity, and cleaning width from the pendant. The Point of Weld command switches the guide beam for setup.
Configure the LightWELD line function for suitable stitch-welding applications. Rapid Fire supports laser firing during robot motion. Available functions depend on the LightWELD model and system configuration.

04 / REAL APPLICATIONS
From Serra Laser’s ALAW 2026 presentation.See how Serra applies cobot laser welding to demanding materials, complex shapes, and welds that need a clean finish.

304 STAINLESS / RETAIL DISPLAY
Wire-feed laser welding addressed distortion and finishing requirements on a stainless display assembly.
Reported resultEliminated post-process finishing and consumable waste.

304 STAINLESS / INDUSTRIAL FRYER
Wire feed with a weaving function bridged gaps in the wire structure while addressing the need for grinding.
Reported resultEliminated post-process finishing by eliminating spatter.

304 STAINLESS / FOOD PACKAGING
Coordinated cobot motion followed intricate geometry to create a smooth weld joint.
Reported resultGood surface finish without distortion or post-process cleanup.
Application results reported in Serra Laser Center’s ALAW 2026 presentation. Results depend on the part, material, fit-up, and process settings.

THE COMPLETE WORKCELL
Laser welding requires a controlled work area. Serra’s integration approach combines enclosure design, door interlocks, and clear operator status indicators.

LIGHTSTAGE / COORDINATED POSITIONING
LightSTAGE adds two FANUC servo axes for coordinated tilt and rotation. Together with the six-axis CRX, it brings eight-axis coordinated motion to your LightBOT system.

Siegmund or aluminum tabletop options provide a fixture base. Serra can confirm the positioner, load requirements, and integration for your parts.
Yes. LightBOT can be retrofitted to existing IPG LightWELD systems. The integration includes software updates and the IPG cobot interface. Serra can confirm the package for your model.
Yes. The system supports both cobot and handheld operation through its gun holder and mode selection interface. This lets you automate suitable welds while retaining handheld flexibility for other work.
Yes. Wire-feed configurations allow wire speed to be controlled from LightBOT commands on the FANUC pendant. Discuss the wire feeder and filler material that suit your application with Serra.
Yes. LightSTAGE adds two coordinated FANUC servo axes for tilt and rotation, giving the six-axis CRX an eight-axis system. The positioner supports hand teaching, offline ROBOGUIDE programming, and adaptive wire feed. Simple rotary start/stop control is also available for suitable applications.
Yes. The LightBOT app can change laser power, wobble width, wobble frequency, and wire-feed settings at programmed points. Preset commands let you reuse settings across different sections of a part.
On LightWELD models with cleaning capability, the LightBOT app provides cleaning controls on the pendant. You can select the metal, intensity, power override, and cleaning width as part of the program.
Long straight seams and repeat parts are good starting points. Fixture quality, part fit-up, torch access, and production quantity all matter. A combination of cobot and handheld welding can suit parts with different access requirements.
It depends on the package. LightBOT is available as a retrofit or a broader system configuration, with table and enclosure options. Confirm the exact equipment included in your quote with Serra Laser.
